Ahead of the much-anticipated World Wrap Masters Final 2022 at the FESPA Global Print Expo 2022, we catch up with some of the finalists that will be battling it out to take the global crown.

We are just a matter of days away from the World Wrap Masters Final 2022 in Berlin. Welcoming some of the best talent in the world of wrapping, the two competitions – the World Wrap Masters Europe 2022 and World Wrap Masters Final 2022 will take place alongside the FESPA Global Print Expo 2022 at the Messe Berlin.

Winners from the World Wrap Masters Europe across the first two days of the main show (31 May to 1 June) will advance to the World Wrap Masters Final over days three and four (2-3 June), for the chance to compete to be crowned the World Wrap Master of 2022.

With excitement at peak levels among competitors and judges alike, we spoke with some of the regional and national winners ahead of their appearance at the World Wrap Masters Final 2022 to find out how they are feeling about the event and what they are planning to impress the judges.

Blow the judges away

First up is Patrick Vermeulen from Dutch Dutch, who was in March this year named as the winner of the first ever World Wrap Masters Netherlands event. Seeing off competition from 11 other entrants, Patrick qualified for the final in Berlin and will now face off against other wrappers from around the world.

“I have been wrapping since 2006, so around 15 or 16 years,” Patrick said. “I entered the World Wrap Masters for fun and for the chance to meet with and catch up with other people who have been wrapping for years.

“I am very much looking forward to the World Wrap Masters Final in Berlin. I hope the level and quality of wrapping will be so high that, collectively, all of the competitors blow the judges away with their talent and skill.

Based on his experience of the competition, Patrick says wrappers who have not taken part before, or those that want to return to the competition, should definitely consider doing so for 2022.

“Mainly, you should compete for the fun of it,” Patrick said. “Besides that, you will also pick up a host of tricks and expert knowledge from other wrappers that are taking part in the competition.”

Sharing knowledge and experience

Next up, Bulgaria’s Ivan Tenchev, the owner of Astra Folio, is a previous winner of the World Wrap Masters and is back in the final again this year after winning the World Wrap Masters Eurasia regional event in 2019.

A highly knowledgeable wrapper with more than 12 years of experience working in the sector, Ivan will battle with other competitors to scoop the World Wrap Masters crown again this year, and he said he is looking forward to the competitive yet friendly nature of the final.

“The World Wrap Masters is my passion; I love competing against other wrappers from around the world, as well as sharing my knowledge and experience with other competitors,” Ivan said.

“Looking to the final this year, I expect nothing less than the absolute best from everyone who is involved. We can certainly look forward to some interesting and attractive wraps from entrants.

“Anyone involved in wrapping should certainly consider entering the competition next year. After all, everyone should enjoy testing their skills against other talented people from this market and the World Wrap Masters is the perfect place to do just this.”

Dream come true

Also competing this year is James Garcia, who qualified for the World Wrap Master Final by winning the Cambea Brasil 2021 event. Garcia has been working within the wrapping sector since 2001 and has been running a physical wrapping facility for more than seven years.

“Qualifying for the World Wrap Masters Final 2022 is a dream come true,” James said. “From competing in the World Wrap Masters, I’ve found that this is a great way of gaining more knowledge about wrapping, while having lots of fun at the same time.

“I hope the final will be an epic moment that will live long in our memories; I will do my best because we know how much we have come to qualify.

“Participating in competitions like the World Wrap Masters helps to evolve your ability in an inexplicable way because at each competition, we have the opportunity to meet and learn from professionals from all over the world. I believe this is priceless!”

Keep challenging

Another finalist this year is Hiroki Kawakami, who won the first ever World Wrap Masters Japan event in November 2019. Hiroki has been wrapping for seven years and owns a wrapping business in his native Japan.

“I entered the World Wrap Masters as I have won a number of competitions in Japan, but now want to challenge competitors from all over the world and test my skills outside of my home country,” Hiroki said.

“I’m also looking forward to working alongside wrappers from other countries, as well as showcasing the skill of Japanese wrappers to the wider industry.

“I would encourage others to enter the World Wrap Masters next year to keep challenging themselves. Working with wrappers from all over the world will give you a great friendship and help you gain new knowledge, skills and tools.”

Interesting and entertaining

The World Wrap Masters Final will also welcome Germany’s Norman Brubach, who was crowned World Wrap Master of Europe at the FESPA Global Print Expo last year. Seeing off competition from Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Hungary, Austria, Russia and Italy, Norman will now battle it out for the world title in Berlin.

“I’ve been wrapping cars since 2008 and run a small car wrapping company in Germany with two employees,” Norman said. “Entering the World Wrap Masters allows me to meet like-minded people from across the world of wrapping.

“The World Wrap Masters is a really fun and interesting global competition. It’s always an entertaining event and being able to work alongside talented wrappers from around the world is always great fun.”
