Every day, thousands of car owners all over the world go to a sign shop to customize their car. Their primary motivation is to make their car stand out, but there are specific reasons why they ask for self-adhesive films. Applying them as opposed to painting a car is easily reversible and it protects the car varnish. They want unusual colour shades, or satin look. Often, they want something that is impossible to do with paint, like brushed metal look, carbon fiber roofs, up to a head-turning full chrome wrap. Or a unique custom printed artsy or commercial design. Others are happy with their colour, so they choose to protect their bumpers, fenders or hoods with a transparent protection films.

The applications offered by wrap industry are limitless. Wrapping skills also open further opportunities, like installation of window films and paint protection films on vehicles, as well as projects involving window and architectural films in/on buildings.

Having been in the sign making industry for a quarter of century, we are very excited to see the evolution of wrap industry in the last few years. The quality, durability and workability of materials has improved tremendously. Training classes to reach professional & certified wrapping skills are widely available, provided by manufacturers and training institutions. New tools are being developed or adapted from other industries that make the film installation more efficient and safe, eliminating customers’ fear of paint cuts or varnish damages. The choice of the colours and effects is amazing and thanks to new mobile phone applications, it is easy to get them all into hands of wide public and let them choose their colour. So, what had once been looked (down) at as “stickers on the cars” has evolved into a professional activity combining quality materials, high level of wrapping skills and creativity.
As an opportunity to test one’s wrapping skills, Fespa organizes a competition World Wrap Masters at events all over the globe. Although participation and winning means a lot for everybody, it is not just a competition. It is above all a hub for exchange of knowledge and skills, for learning something new every day, and for building new relationships. The wrap community is really special: their members are sharing their knowledge, they are helpful and often get together for bigger projects, which is unseen in any other industry – it is a true wrap family.
Come to the World Wrap Masters 2019 and see, why it is great to be a wrapper these days... and there’s a high chance you’ll become one of the wrap family soon and take part of the competition next year!
