The competition consisted of 3 full days of wrappers competing in several rounds where they wrapped various parts of a Toyota Corolla Touring as well as wrapping mannequin hands during the creative round, testing their creativity and their wrapping skills. When reflecting on his victory Jokumsen shared "Traveling to Tokyo, has been on my mind for the last 4 years, and I’ve been dreaming and talking about it. When I first met Tadashi, I joked several times about whether to come to Japan and join. Earlier this year at the World Wrap Masters Final in Amsterdam, he told me he had saved a space for me in Japan, and I agreed immediately and told my family that we were going to Tokyo!" The competition was intense, with many highly skilled wrappers from around the world, making Simon’s victory even more impressive. He expressed his excitement at the result: "The fact that I won was a great achievement for me. This competition had the largest number of competitors compared to any other I’ve been involved in. Each round was stressful but when I reached the final, I felt less pressured. I tried my best and performed as I always do and I succeeded." The final round saw Jokumsen executing a well-thought-out strategy, even as challenges arose. He went on to say: "The final round went well for me. I had planned how I was going to work and my rhythm. I struggled with the bottom at first, so I left it and moved on to come back to it later. It worked for me, and luckily, I managed to win. Big, big thanks to the other really talented participants." Jokumsen emphasised the camaraderie and mutual support within the competition: "The other participants were so good, and I sought advice from them, and they helped me. It’s so cool that you can travel the world, compete with others, and still help each other." He also reflected on his long history in the vinyl wrapping scene, having competed since 2015: "I partook in my first competition in 2015 and have competed in many since. It’s something I love, and the whole environment and people around the competitions are fantastic." The organiser of World Wrap Masters Japan competition, Tadashi Kariya, commented: "A great battle unfolded from Round 1, and it was clear that the wrappers’ skills had improved even more from last year. Moving to the next round required advanced techniques, and unfortunately, 15 competitors were disqualified due to cutting the paint. Congratulations to Simon, who won first place, Kazuhiko Okabe, who came in second, Hiroki Kawakami, who came in third, and Erika Gare, the MVP! 5 wonderful competitors, Simon Manley Jokumsen, Filip Sørensen, Erika Gare, Heguan, and Yingyen demonstrated their efficient techniques in Japan. Competing in a foreign country where you don’t understand the language, you are dealing with a time difference, and adjusting to a new environment is incredibly difficult. Yet, they all performed brilliantly." The competition was sponsored by Mimaki, Arlon Nichie, 3M, P Factory, NKODA NKDJAPAN. Simon will go on to compete against other regional winners of World Wrap Masters competitions at the World Wrap Masters Final 2025 taking place from 8 – 9 May at FESPA Global Print Expo 2025.
